Tottenham Close on Savinho and Marmoush Deals

Tottenham are reportedly on the verge of securing the signings of Manchester City duo Savinho and Omar Marmoush. Spurs have agreed to an £85 million deal for Savinho, with an initial payment of £75 million and an additional £10 million in potential add-ons, £5 million of which are considered guaranteed. The Brazilian international is expected to undergo his medical on Friday afternoon.

Furthermore, negotiations for Marmoush are progressing positively, indicating that a deal is also close to being finalized.

This marks a significant summer spending spree for Tottenham, who have already invested over £200 million in six first-team players. These acquisitions include midfielders Sandro Tonali (£185m from Newcastle) and Matheus Fernandes (£185m from West Ham), Jan Paul van Hecke (£52m from Brighton) to replace Cristian Romero, and free transfers for Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, and Martin Dubravka.

Savinho's potential transfer would set a new club record for Manchester City, surpassing Julian Alvarez's £82 million move to Atletico Madrid in 2024. Savinho has had a limited role since joining City in 2024, starting only seven of his 24 Premier League appearances last season, with one goal and two assists.

Tottenham's Financial Capacity Explained

Michael Bridge of Sky Sports News highlighted Tottenham's financial strength, attributing their significant spending to their consistent qualification for European competitions over the past two decades and the substantial revenue generated by their stadium through various events like boxing, concerts, and NFL games. Tottenham has climbed to ninth place in the Deloitte Money League, boasting annual revenues of £549.2 million, and is also benefiting from the Premier League's shift to a squad cost ratio.

The change in strategy under new leadership, with a commitment to reinvesting revenue into the first team after a near-relegation scare, is driving this aggressive transfer policy.

Maresca Confirms Savinho's Desire to Leave

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Savinho had expressed his desire to leave the club from the outset of the summer. Maresca acknowledged the difficulty in convincing players to stay when they are seeking new challenges or more playing time. He stated that Savinho, like Rodri, had made his intentions clear and that the club was awaiting developments.

City Prepared for Departures

Sky Sports News reporter Ben Ransom noted that both Savinho and Marmoush are considered surplus to requirements at Manchester City. While Maresca has indicated they are welcome to fight for their place, the club understands if players prioritize first-team football and will not stand in their way if acceptable offers are received. City will need to find replacements for these players, potentially for both, with the transfer window nearing its close.
